Jauffre is the Grandmaster of the Blades. He lives in cover as a quiet monk in a place called Weynon Priory. You are sent to him by Baurus at the end of the tutorial. This marks the start of the main quest. After the player finds Martin Septim, Jauffre moves with Martin to Cloud Ruler Temple, where he acts more directly as Grandmaster, helping the player and the new emperor through the trial of the Oblivion crisis.
If Jauffre dies, for example during The Defense of Bruma, his body will never disappear because it is tagged as a "Quest Item".
Unique Dialogue
Most of Jauffre's dialogue is unique to him. At the end of the main quest, on the subject of Martin he will say:
He truly was the Dragonborn... the last, and perhaps the greatest of all the Septims.
Starts Quests
-Find the Heir: You must head to Kvatch to find the illegitimate heir to the throne, Martin Septim, true son of Uriel Septim.
The Path of Dawn: You must return to Baurus in the Imperial City to try to track down the stolen Amulet of Kings.

Notes
-During the Weynon Priory quest, Jauffre can be a useful follower because he is an essential NPC with good combat skills. However, during Light the Dragonfires he is less useful because he is no longer essential.
