The Imperial City was a busy place, and the market district was no exception. In fact, save for the Arena, it was one of the most bustling areas, since people came not only locally to buy groceries, but from all over Cyrodil. There was such a variety of different stores, and if you couldn’t get what you needed in your own town then you came to the City to get it.
Short as she was, Charlotte had to be careful not to be trodden on as she left the Gilded Carafe with a basketful of fresh alchemy ingredients. Living in the city for three years meant she knew when were the best times to go ingredient shopping before anyone else snaffled them up. Among the everyday stuff like alkanet flower and primrose seeds, there was also some Lady’s Mantle leaves, an ingredient she had yet to try.
As she walked along she tore a tiny piece off the leaf and put it on her tongue. Such a small amount meant any properties of an ingredient would have very little effect, but it was just enough for someone trained in alchemy to detect the different properties.
Tasting it was something of a self-imposed test, as Charlotte was just learning to recognise the third properties of ingredients. In the leaf, she could recognise the easier-to-spot effects like the health restoral, but was still having trouble detecting the night eye effect that she was told this ingredient had. She tasted it once more for luck, but still couldn’t feel it. She sighed irritatedly. Well, she could always use it for something else. Come to think of it, she had some Cairn Bolete caps back at the university. She could make a health restorative. Yes, that’s what she’d do...
Distracted by her thoughts she quite forgot to look where she was going and walked right into someone, spilling the contents of her basket to the ground.
“Mara...!” she cursed, squinting up at whoever she’d bumped into.

Zero Was out and about these streets this busy day. He’d come to get a few things for some friends, or coworkers, and left his weapon with a smith, And thus had the rest of his day to wait around. He fulfilled a errands and was stuck now with nothing. The little bit taller then usual, Bosmer stood on the side of the street leaning on the wall for a little while, his deep purple robes handing around him.
He bushed back some unusual almost white long hair out of his face and tried to tie it back, he shifted from one foot to the other, enjoying the fresh air and warm sunlight of the day, he also just enjoyed watching the people and crowds go by. One by one, the different people went about their days, he wondered what the lives of strangers were like, if he was able to step into the shoes of another and see though their eyes what they did different from everyone else. Of course this wasn’t something he could do and left it as that.
He left the wall and started back down the sidewalk thinking about his life, In the mages guild, one that practically took him as a child, but for a deeper reason he needed to stay there. He wiped some more hair out of his face, and smiled warmly. Zero was a kind hearted person. If not to kind in fact people often took advantage of the Bosmer. He walked on. Before he knew it his mind had gone off elsewhere, as it seemed to do with another person. Before he knew it, she bumped into someone, he kept his footing and blinked a few times taking in what had happened he looked at the clearly annoyed . He frowned deeply not sure if it was his fault or hers, he wasn’t one to argue.
Bending down on his knees he quickly tried to help her father her things before they rolled off or got stepped on by other people. “I am so, so deeply sorry.” he apologized with a warm but sorry tone. And he was he hoped picking them up would help, if any were ruined he would even try and replace them. He gathered a handful and carefully tried to get them back into the basket.

Hearing the mer she’d bumped into apologise so profusely made Charlotte feel a little guilty for swearing. “Oh, no it’s ok,” she said quickly, accepting his help getting her stuff together, “I wasn’t, um, I wasn’t looking...” Realising she probably sounded like a silly little girl, she salvaged the last of the ingredients and stood up. She was surprised at having to still look up a little to look him in the eye; usually male Bosmer were about the only adults she didn’t have to do this with, diminutive as she was.
She brushed herself off, determined to regain some semblance of dignity, especially now she actually looked at the Bosmer’s face, and realised they were part of the same guild, and she had in fact seen him briefly before at another Guildhall.
“Oh, I’m sorry fellow mage; I didn’t recognise you at first. You came to the Bravil guildhall once to speak to Wizard Kud-ei.” They hadn’t spoken, but she remembered being struck by his long, white hair. It was a shade you didn’t see often in mer his age, since they aged so much more slowly than humans.
She noticed her palms stinging a little, and looked down to see grazes where she’d put out her hands to catch herself. She quickly summoned a healing spell into her right hand, rubbing the palms together to knit the torn skins back together. Sometimes being a mage was really useful.
((I hope it’s ok that she’s seen him before))

A Smile came upon his face as she apologized. Glad she did merely because it was nice to see people that still had manners. He waved his hand dismissing it. “it is quite alright, I’m afraid I wasn’t paying to much attention as well.” he stated and noticed that she was mage as well. He’d met and seen so many, he scrolled though his mind’s eye trying to recall her face, he’d thought he’d seen before.
She spoke up before he said anything else talking about Bravil and he speaking with ‘Kud-ei‘ he thought for a moment about his latest trip to Bravil and gave a light smile. “I was there studying some illusion magic.” he smiled. “and helping her with a small task.” he stated. He didn’t go into detail, not because he didn’t want her to know them, but merely because he didn’t see the importance of babbling on if she didn’t ask. “I think I may have seen you there, I am sorry please don’t find me rude, there are a lot of faces for me to recall, I’m not sure we got the chance to talk.” he smiled warmly and brushed some loose hair out of his face.
He paused to watch her heal herself, something that he would have done but today his head seemed a bit in the clouds, but at least she was fixed up now, so nothing else mattered. After making sure all her things were picked up. He looked her over. They would most likely be ending up the same place today at one point, perhaps? If she were going to the University sometime today that is. “again I am sorry for spilling your things, I hope nothing is damaged.” he stated and folded is hands slightly behind his back. A soft soul indeed. But really he didn’t have anything to do today other then what already be done. She he didn’t find it overly rude to ask, and hoped she wouldn’t either, as he spoke up again. “What brings you here this fine day m’lady? Are you…..getting ready to make some Potions with Alchemy?” it was just a guess, who knew she could just be shopping. Some people likes to buy their potions, others liked to make them from scratch.

Yggdrasil was wondering around the market district, eye on the coin purses on several potential marks, and there activities. he was too lazy to venture outside the city for a while so he figured he'd lighten the load on someone's waist.
he recognized a head of white a while ago but decided not to bother Zero. he figured he could always find him later, after all he followed him around earlier so he knew he had some time. as the blacksmith had a lot of orders to fill today... he misplaced some guards blades honestly it was amusing, he put them in there footlockers... really how stupid can those guards get... he should speak with his friend about it. he walked smoothly and silently behind some fat noble who was looking at some pretty baubles which he seemed to want to buy for the overly make-uped (sp?) ladies on his arms.
really he didn't always target terribly unattractive nobles (lie). he smiled to himself as he pocketed the purse. the man when he finally realized he had been robbed and one of the ladies lost her necklace, the other her diamond studded belt. He was already gone. he stuffed the necklace and belt in his pack he would sell those later when Fathis Ules came out. he normally wouldn't deal with Yggdrasil but he would make an exception when he say the trinkets he would bring him.
Yggdrasil made his way over to Zero, noticing he ran into someone, zero was always kind. he waited for a moment and watched the exchange.
"hello Zero, its good to see you again." Yggdrasil said he then turned his attention to the other Mer. "And hello Miss who might you be?" he asked with a friendly smile his welkyd colored eyes twinkling.

Charlotte was glad she’d been right when she recognised the Bosmer. “No, I don’t think we spoke. I was studying some Mysticism actually. It’s kind of my speciality.” Here a little of Charlotte’s boastfulness shone through, though it wasn’t obvious except to the observant. “I’m at the university now.” she added, keen to demonstrate that she wasn’t, as her short stature and round cheeks would have you think, twelve years old.
“Yes,” she said in response to his question about the ingredients, “I’m going to make a health restorative, not that I have much use of one, gods know I’m not about to go trekking through a dungeon. But it’s good to keep practicing.” She knew a few mages who doubled as adventurers, but she knew she wasn’t one of them. She was the studious type, not the athletic.
She was about to add about how she’d been practicing tasting the third effect of the ingredients, but before she could speak another...well he must have been another Bosmer; his height certainly suggested that. But he seemed lacking in the common facial features of that race. Charlotte mentally shrugged it off; like most humans she generally found it difficult to tell mer apart, so perhaps this one was just sufficiently different to seem unusual.
It seemed him and her acquaintance – he called him ‘Zero’ – knew each other already. “Oh, hello, I’m Charlotte,” she extended a pudgy hand for him to shake, “Charlotte Saxe. I’m at the University,” she repeated, "And you are?"

Zero smiled sweetly at the young woman. He chuckled lightly. “Potions always come in handy though” he nodded. “never be unprepared” he added with a happy look. “sometimes I find myself in situations where I should have been more prepared, sadly I lack a lot of skill with alchemy” he chuckled brushing some hair back. Pausing he heard another voice speak to him, he blinked realizing it didn’t come from the same being and twisted to see Yggdrasil.
A smile crept over his feature and he gave a wave at the other halfbosmer. “It is nice to see you again as well my friend” he said warmly keeping his polite yet inviting tone of voice. “sorry I am so sorry I forgot, to say, I am Zero.” he sighed lightly and fairly embarrassed. “I am also with the University” he nodded but maybe that was also silly to say? He scratched his head some and sighed. “ah I’m so clumsy today aren’t I? in more way then one I am afraid” he sighed but with a smile.
“this is my friend Yggdrasil” he put a hand on Ygg’s shoulder not thinking he would care about being introduced by him. Ygg was old enough to be his father x10 but Zero didn’t see that as a reason not to be good friends, of course maybe that was a flaw to? Zero had many ‘good friends’ did they see him the same way? Or a better question was with whom was the friendship real on their side? But this didn’t bother him either, perhaps just a harmless soul though and though.
[sorry shortish post ^^;]

Yggdrasil reached his hand out to grab the breton's hand and shook it gently but firmly. while he let Zero introduce him. Noticing she was a mage and all the ingredients she had in her basket as he took her in. and not noticing it but sizing her up for a mark as well... like most mage's he decided they weren't worth the trouble. "pleasure to meat you, lady."
he chuckled at Zero's remark about being clumsy. he liked yoko, he reminded him of a son. a son he would never have. that and he made a excellent friend he remembers Zero saving his life not to long ago after almost overdosing on Skooma. he will never be able to repay him for such a thing. "we all have our off days, some more so than others." Yggdrasil was still happy about his luck earlier, he would do fine for a while, get some supplies, buy some good storage for the ruins he now called home. it may be nice and warm out, now that Spring is ending and summer was here. he still liked to keep a stock of food there. as it was hard as hell to find his home. he liked it that way, with all the treasures he had stolen and non.
he tilted his head up slightly he herd guards questioning people about seeing a thief come buy here. yggdrasil hoped he would pass by there notice as he wasn't dressed like one. far from it he was dressed in a nice richly colored red tunic. not that ugly one with the purple , it was nice and simple. and didn't stand out to much.
"so your going to make a health poultice... potion thing." not really remembering what the mage's guild called them. Aegnor and a few of his lovers where never apart of the guild. " i have no idea what mage's call them anymore." he said honestly. all he knew on the occasion he did steal from a mage health poultice's or potions went for a lot.
(OC: mind you Ygg is not going to steal from either of you... some random passerby maybe not any of you.)

“Ygg-dra-sil?” Charlotte repeated the mer’s name carefully, so as not to mispronounce it, since it was as unusual as the mer himself. “That’s an interesting name. Unusual for a...” She then realised she was digging herself into a hole, as she still wasn’t sure if he was a Bosmer. Still, that was her best guess, and it’d be more embarrassing to just stand there with her mouth open, so she finished a little red-facedly: “...Bosmer.”
The guard going past talking about a thief provided a welcome change of topic. Charlotte grimaced, and hugged her basket close to her as though the thief was right beside her, which, of course he was, but like most people she had a fixed image of what a thief looked like, and it certainly wasn’t Yggdrasil. If there was one thing she regretted about moving away from her family to the city, it was the masses of thieves about. Perhaps she was just remembering her childhood home through rose-tinted glasses, but she was sure there weren’t nearly as many of thieves roaming free back in High Rock.
“Ugh, I hate thieves,” she said in ignorance, “you always have to watch out for them around here. I heard they almost caught the Gray Fox a few weeks back; honestly, you’d have thought he’d stick out like a sore thumb, if he looks anything like the posters.”

Zero watched Ygg and smiled with a light nod. “it would seem so I suppose” he nodded in agreement when he said everyone had their days. He then looked toward his new Breton friend as she fumbled around Ygg’s rather unique name. “Zero is a strange name as well I am afraid” he smiled then looked toward Ygg. “at least its short and simple.” he was just teasing the others not really trying to annoy to much. But really what he said was partly true.
Zero glanced over hearing the guards talking, this made Zero ponder silently to himself but saying nothing he just looked towards Ygg. “I just call them potions namely because I don’t mind being informal with objects. Who would know” he smirked okay maybe that wasn’t really a good thing to say, being a mage of the guild but he couldn’t help it, he was just to loose and mild to care about random seemingly not important things as the two terms for one thing. He just took it easy, but perhaps that is why people didn’t mind him, he also had a stronger side but rarely found use for it.
He looked toward Charlotte, and her words about thieves. He chuckled. “as long as they don’t murder and take from the poor, they don’t really bother me to much’ he smiled lightly embarrassed and played with some of his hair. “of course I suppose I always guard my goods, and carry only so much on me at a time.” he pointed out thinking a moment. Chuckling once more he nodded. “I would think so……” he nodded glancing around as if to glance at a poster, he didn’t see one right there, but there was defiantly one somewhere nearby, there always was.

Yggdrasil raised and eyebrow at the two of them while he listened to them talk. he was glad thought that Hieronymus was not on duty here at the moment, he would have some explaining to do otherwise. though his response as always. 'well those with money should learn to hold on to it better.' he chuckled at the comment about his name being difficult. "yes...my name.. it is meant to be difficult." he said with a slight grin. yggdrasil knowing all but a few who knew his real name. he could count them on his one hand.
"bosmer? you can say i am a bosmer but you can say that i am not as well." she tilted his head "if i look more like a bosmer to you, think of me as it." it also reminded him of the lonely home he had, something of his mother's past he held onto dearly. and only two maybe three people alive knew of what he was.
"but ah you see, about that gray fox...." he said with a smile and a secret glint in his eye. " he looks like everyone else. nothing special, one could say he is almost forgettable. and that it what makes him a great thief one the authorities can not capture." he said and didn't say too much." but that is just my take, personally i think its just the law bullying the poor of the waterfront and the rest of the city." yggdrasil finished.
he was worried though Hieronymus was starting to get bolder and the thieves guild, did not like it. they asked Yggdrasil to watch his friend and foil any attempt he made against them, with out being obvious. he wanted to tell them no and he did. but then the fox himself came looking for him. the fox has planes for Hieronymus he wanted him alive and out of the way till he was ready for him.

Charlotte flushed further when Yggdrasil picked up on her confusion, both over his name and his race. She was intrigued as to what he was if not a Bosmer. He could have been an Altmer, except he was far too small. Perhaps he was a half-breed. Yes, that must be it. She didn’t bring it up again, thought, because the conversation seemed to have moved on as she’d hoped it would. She frowned at Zero’s rationalisation that thieves were fine as long as they didn’t murder or steal from the poor.
“But that’s like saying anyone with money is fair game to be robbed. Surely if the money is yours, you should be able to keep it.” Realising how that could sound selfish, she added: “I mean, I’m fine with giving the beggars a coin if they ask for it, but if I’ve worked hard for it then I should at least have a choice in the matter.”
She didn’t mention that the money for her tuition, books and food came not from her own work, but from the work of her parents.
Momentarily worked up over an issue she felt strongly about, she almost turned on Yggdrasil when he seemed to be complimenting the Gray Fox, but she checked herself and let him finished before replying in a calmer tone: “Well, the law’s never bothered me.”

Zero blinked then waved a hand at his newer friend. “agreeable.” he nodded what she said he wasn’t sure he could have put it better. He looked at the two and only smiled all this talk about thieves. A random topic for these random three. After he felt everything that could be said was said he clapped his hands, but not overly loudly as he smiled with a small chuckle. “my friends, the sun is starting to get to me a bit, how about the three of find a place to go in and sit down, I will pay for our lunch and drink.” he waved a hand. “my treat” he paused and then spoke up again. “unless either of you are really busy then I can excuse it.” he nodded and folded his hands behind his back.
The three of them standing there talking most likely stuck out. Zero normally stuck out anyway, either because people liked him, or people thought he was ‘too nice’ and Ygg most defiantly stuck out anywhere he went even if he looked like he didn’t, there was something about him that grabbed you, much like Zero’s hair. Charlotte was most likely the only one who didn’t stick out like a sore thumb. Of course whos to say she wanted to hang around with these two weirdoes anyway.

Yggdrasil raised and eyebrow at Zero, chuckling to himself. and thought to himself that he might have upset the little Breton. thinking of places quickly that they could go to get out of the hot afternoon sun.
"no worries Zero, i still need to repay for your help. so i will cover it, i have more than enough." thinking the large purse he just liberated. " we can go to the Merchants inn. Velus Hosidius has a varied selection of food stuffs." Yggdrasil responded folding his arms and standing more on one leg than the other.
Yggdrasil's eyes and head was bothering him, the sun was bright and no cloud cover today. it had been beating down on the mer's face and eyes all morning. he fidgeted one finger with a plain but rather pretty ring that rested upon it. no enchantments simple and pretty it was vine like and held small emerald, peridot and diamond chips in it. the ring was old but well made, by Mer craftsmen of old. it was slightly more noticeable than normal as he was wearing red, green tended to do that.
(OC; not making a dig at height... as he is very short yeah and sorry its kinda bad.)

When Zero pointed out that the sun was getting to him a bit, Charlotte realised it was probably not a good idea for her to stand in the sun too long either– gods know, her pale skin was prone to sunburn. She found it amusing that both men wanted to buy her and the other one a meal; then again from her experience mer tended to be a little more generous when it came to money. Probably to do with having such a long lifetime. Of course, she didn’t know just how long Yggdrasil had been around, but she knew most mer lived at least a few hundred years longer than her kind.
“The Merchant’s Inn sounds lovely,” she said, starting to walk that way, “I know Velus a little bit. He ticked off a couple of the other students when he told the magistars they’d been out drinking.” She paused, remembering that Yggdrasil wasn’t part of the University, and so might not know the rules. “You see, the magistars want us to focus completely on our minds. That means no drinking, no fighting, no, er, no romance. ‘Course they do it anyway.” Personally, Charlotte was too nervous of impressing the adults at the university to join the other apprentices in their little acts of rebellion, but she could understand why. Not everyone was as interested in absorbing facts and learning new skills as she was.
